Chemical sciences crucial in addressing global challenges, says expert

Senior Technical Engineer of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), Kaiga, M.K. Chitharanjan has emphasised the critical role of chemical sciences in addressing global challenges such as climate change, energy security, environmental protection and sustainable industrial development.

He was inaugurating a five-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Chemical Engineering and Sciences: Sustainable Approaches” organized by theDepartment of Chemical Engineering, SDM College of Engineering and Technology (SDMCET), Dharwad, in association with the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) in the college recently.

He said that sustainability posed immense challenges along with loads of opportunities and elaborated on the importance of innovation, resource efficiency and responsible technological advancement in achieving sustainable growth.

Presiding over the event, SDME Society secretary Jeevandhar Kumar stressed the need for continuous learning and capacity building among faculty members to address emerging technological and societal challenges.

Making the introductory remarks, SDMCET principal Ramesh L. Chakrasali highlighted the significance of interdisciplinary research and collaboration in achieving sustainable development goals and encouraged participants to leverage the FDP as an opportunity for knowledge sharing and innovation.

Eminent scholars from various reputed institutions are conducting sessions during the Faculty Development Programme.
