M Zubaidur Rahman has resigned from his position as chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC.
He submitted his resignation letter to the governor of Bangladesh Bank today (24 May), a senior official of the Islami Bank confirmed to The Business Standard.
Zubaidur Rahman was appointed chairman of the bank on 23 July last year.
A board meeting of Islami Bank was scheduled for today, but it did not take place amid protests by a customer forum. Later, instead of attending the board meeting, Zubaidur reportedly went to the central bank and submitted his resignation letter to the governor.
Zubaidur Rahman began his career in 1975 as a lecturer at the Finance Department of Dhaka University. He later earned a PhD in finance from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.
He also served as a professor at the State University of New York, visiting professor at Italy’s Bocconi University, and visiting scholar at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Moscow State University.
