Sun, a three-time Olympic gold medallist who helped China retain the women’s team title at Paris 2024, responded again for China with a commanding performance against Harimoto, winning 11-2, 11-4, 11-6 to force the final into a decisive fifth match.
That left Wang and Hayata to return to the table, both looking to recover from earlier defeats. Wang controlled the match from the start, winning in straight games to complete China’s comeback and add another chapter to the nation’s extraordinary record in the women’s team event.
China beat Japan to seal men’s team title
China later completed the sweep by defeating Japan 3–0 in the men’s team final, closing the championships with a 12th consecutive (and 24 total) world title.
