Hong Kong’s Pilot Scheme on Sports Dispute Resolution has already helped resolve its first sports dispute, with several other cases now being handled.

Deputy Justice Secretary Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan announced the development on Tuesday at the Sports Mediation Seminar, part of Mediation Week 2026.

“Establishing an efficient and credible sports dispute resolution mechanism is a key cornerstone of sports development,” Cheung said.

Launched by the Department of Justice and supported by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau on Feb 13, the pilot program aims to provide the sports sector with a fair, efficient and convenient mechanism for resolving disputes — such as those involving sponsorship agreements, player transfers and disciplinary matters.

Cheung also said that more promotional and training sessions will be held, with the goal of raising awareness of sports dispute resolution among both the public and the sports sector, so as to maximize the effectiveness of the pilot program.

Roys Zhang contributed to the story.
