$35m Chinese investments take off to boost Kwara economy

Kwara State has attracted two major foreign direct investments valued at $35 million, underscoring Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s commitment to industrialisation and sustainable economic growth.

Sun Qing Rong, Team Lead of ER-KANG Company Limited, disclosed that the company had completed and commenced operations of its $20 million lithium processing factory in the State, in line with the government’s policy on value addition and local manufacturing.

Rong said the factory employs over 300 workers, most of whom are Kwarans, and processes lithium into finished materials rather than exporting it in raw form without value addition.

He further revealed that the company would be investing over $15 million in a pharmaceutical manufacturing company in Kwara State, adding that ER-KANG would also partner with the State Government on the development of the industrial park.

“This is one of the fruits of the meeting we held with Your Excellency in Beijing about two years ago. Today, we have completed the lithium plant and it is fully operational. This year, we are also commencing the pharmaceutical company with the support of Your Excellency”, Rong said.

According to him, the pharmaceutical factory will be developed in two phases, comprising large-volume infusion and small-volume injection workshops, aimed at addressing shortages of such products in the Nigerian market.

“At present, the relevant preparatory work has been largely completed,” he added.

Rong commended Governor Abdulrazaq for providing what he described as an “outstanding investment environment for foreign investors,” noting that ER-KANG maintains a strong commitment to social responsibility within its host communities.

A statement by Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq expressed satisfaction with the investments, describing them as significant milestones that would create jobs, promote technology transfer, and stimulate the local economy.

“We are willing to support you and other investors to invest even more in our state”, the governor said.
