Manufacturing production falls between August and October

Production in manufacturing industries decreased by 0.6% in the three months from August to October, when compared with the previous three months.

However, on an annual basis, production in the sector was 14.4% higher compared to the same period last year, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office.

The data shows that despite the fall in production during August to October, turnover in manufacturing industries was up by 2.4%, when compared with the previous three-months.

While a turnover increase of 11.0% was recorded when compared with the same time in 2024.

The CSO said the highly globalised Modern sector, which includes the Chemical, Pharmaceutical, and Computer & Electronic sectors, experienced an annual growth of 18.3% in industrial production from August to October, compared to the same period last year.

In contrast, annual production in the Traditional sector fell by 3.4% over the same three-month period.

Statistician in the Enterprise Statistics Division of the CSO, Gregg Patrick, said the CSO recommends that analysts “take a longer-term view of the indices because of the variability that can occur within the given months of a quarter.”

He said the results cover manufacturing activity undertaken on behalf of industrial enterprises headquartered in Ireland.

“It should be noted that they include both manufacturing in Ireland and manufacturing abroad, either by foreign subsidiaries or by foreign subcontractors.”

“The multinational sector in particular is highly globalised, conducting much of its manufacturing activity abroad,” Mr Patrick added.
