ASIC’s fine for ANZ bond trading scandal ‘on the light side’, Federal Court says

Fines imposed on ANZ by the corporate regulator for misconduct at its retail bank and misreporting of bond trading data were not tough enough, according to the Federal Court.

Justice Jonathan Beach, who is reviewing the Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s $240 million fine of ANZ, remarked that parts of the fine were “on the light side” as he determined whether to approve the penalty.
