Originally formed as the Cobra Club in 1972 they joined the Shelby American Automobile Club in 1975, becoming the Motor City Region. Their location near the Ford World Headquarters brings the faithful out for their many events. You’ll find the club holding their monthly membership meetings at Pasquales Restaurant on Woodward Avenue, which seems appropriate. The club holds some of their track days at Waterford Hills Road Course that is part of the Oakland Hills Sportsman Club in Waterford Hills Michigan.
The Labor Day Classic & Fantasy Trans-Am Event includes period correct cars providing everyone with some great photo opportunities. One of the cool things about SAAC-MCR Track days is the open nature of the event; while it’s mostly Ford Mustangs, the club let’s other enthusiasts participate in the fun. There are always a nice variety of performance cars there.
Darius Rudis is the chief instructor along with several others there to help the drivers hone their skills. His yellow EcoBoost Mustang has several tasteful modifications that help him fly around the track. Overall this group of Shelby Enthusiasts has something really cool going on. Watching these cars on the track and in their natural environment unhindered by the constraints of traffic laws makes for a really good time. If you get a chance take your Mustang out to your local track events. There are a lot out there just Google track days in your area and go enjoy yourself.
