Taipei, Sept. 23 (CNA) Japan-based budget airline Peach Aviation said Saturday it will launch its inaugural Taoyuan-Sapporo flight service the following day and Taoyuan-Sendai flights on Monday, amid efforts to increase its market presence in Taiwan.
Round-trip flights to Sapporo will take place every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, while those to Sendai will be available on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, the no-frills airline said.
That schedule will apply to flights from Sunday to Oct. 28, which is peak season for travel to Japan, the airline said.
Starting next summer, the carrier will also offer daily flights between Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan and Okinawa, CEO Shinichi Inoue said earlier this month.
“Taiwan is central to Peach’s goal of becoming a ‘bridge in the sky’ in Asia,” Inoue said, adding that the company plans to double the size of its current fleet of 19 aircraft by 2020.
The airline currently operates 13 international routes, including four that serve Taiwan, namely Taoyuan-Tokyo, Taoyuan-Osaka, Taoyuan-Okinawa and Kaohsiung-Osaka.
