MLA files complaint over ‘sabotage bid’

P.T. Thomas, MLA, lodged a complaint with the Palarivattom police on Monday following suspicion that tyres of his SUV have been tampered, allegedly with ulterior motives.

Mr. Thomas said he decided to lodge the complaint after the automobile company confirmed that it could not have happened without external intervention.

The incident came to light when he was travelling on his Innova to Kizhakkambalam and a woman passing by near Vytilla brought to the notice of his driver that one tyre was wobbling around 6.30 p.m. on Sunday.

“We immediately parked the car and on examining, found that a screw of the rear left tyre had come unhinged while the remaining screws were all in removable condition. The same was the case with the other tyres. This was very strange since I had got the car serviced just three days ago,” said Mr. Thomas.

Automobile authorities who arrived immediately also found the condition of the tyres unusual and took away the vehicle, he said.

‘Company confirms’

“I did not file a petition on Sunday itself since I wanted to wait till the automobile company examined the vehicle. I filed the petition only around 3 p.m. on Monday after the company officials confirmed that there was something fishy. Had we continued our journey ignorant of the situation it would have proved very dangerous,” said Mr. Thomas. Asked whether he suspected anyone, he was not forthcoming.

Probe launched

The Palarivattom police have launched a probe into the case. “We will have to look at all the places where the legislator had been to. We are in the process of collecting details,” police sources said.
