Letter to the Editor: Health care law needs to be improved
As a small business owner, I know that Congress and the White House need to work together in a timely manner to amend the Affordable Care Act and strengthen the healthcare marketplaces. Otherwise, many will suffer from exorbitant increases in their healthcare costs.
Before the ACA was passed, a preexisting condition prevented my husband and me from finding coverage, and as a result, we went uninsured for several years. During this time, my husband was admitted to the emergency room and we left with a $20,000 bill — a payment that would now bankrupt my business.
I’m worried my healthcare will become unaffordable once again due to the marketplaces’ increasing instability. That’s why action needs to be taken now to improve the healthcare law. I hope bipartisan efforts can be made before it’s too late to help people like me who rely on the ACA for coverage.
