LETTER: Health care bill a GOP game | Opinion

It is obvious that funding the states to administer health care, as proposed by the disingenuous Republican U.S. Senate malefactors Sens. Bill Cassidy, R-La., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., was a bribe to mostly Southern states, especially ones with high rates of poverty, like Tennessee. They aver that state and local politicians are more honorable and accountable than federal civil servants and Congress.

The records show the lobbying “contributions” by Big Pharma and the “health insurance industry” to benefit Congress have resulted in the developed world’s poorest health care accompanied by the highest drug prices and Big Pharma profits. The U.S. spent $3.19 trillion — 17.2 percent of the $18.57 trillion gross domestic product — on health care in 2016. These figures are comprehensible in so far as what we do NOT have as citizens of the richest nation in human history, the human right to universal health care. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., advocates and sponsors universal health care, a demonstrably less costly choice compared to health care options from the health care industry.

Cassidy was particularly below-the-belt sleazy in his Trump imitation during the CNN debate with Sanders and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., in calling Sanders a socialist, as if that is something dishonorable. It may be warranted to accuse Bill Cassidy, MD, who sleazed the Hippocratic oath, of fascism. Cassidy’s bloviation and this oath are an oxymoron!

In the game of liar’s poker, Republicans, in particular Cassidy, win hands down!
