Infrastructure Minister announces plan to start restoration of aviation infrastructure in Donbas from 2018

Ukraine should increase the volume of restoration works in Donbas, Ukraine’s Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan has said following his visit to the region.

“We should together with the prime minister and the president launch a powerful program to restore infrastructure in Donbas next year: roads, railways, aviation,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

The minister said that this year the forces of the railway troops will restore two bridges in Troitske and Rubizhne (both in Luhansk region), which, according to him, were destroyed by Russian saboteurs.

“It is extremely important for Kyiv to support Donbas: give an alternative to the destroyed plants and lost jobs with new modern projects in industry, agriculture, hi-tech,” Omelyan said.

As reported, Ukraine closed the air space over Donbas after the start of hostilities in summer 2014. Currently the nearest civil airports to this region are Kharkiv, Zaporizhia, Dnipro, and Kherson.
