People tend to put rivalries aside when it comes to raising money to help local children.

Such was the case with Dancing With Our PALs contestants Oswald Welsh and Kallee Jackson who will compete against each other at this year’s competition Oct. 7 at the Sunrise Theatre.

Welsh and Jackson recently hosted “DRIVEN, the Ultimate Fashion & Automobile Extravaganza” at the Manatee Island Bar and Grill on the Fort Pierce Inlet.

Outside, a procession of vehicles from Coggin Honda and Jaguar/Land Rover Treasure Coast transported female models to the restaurant’s entryway where they received the red carpet treatment, thanks to the live-streaming of WFLM the Flame’s radio personality Lourdes Campos. While exiting their vehicles, the women showed off the exquisite designs of dancer Jackson who also is the CEO/Founder of Kallee Classy Fashions.

Inside, several of the Fort Pierce Police Athletic League kids sang the signature PAL song written by Executive Director Paul Pearson: “Everyone needs a PAL, P-A-L.”

Following performances by saxophonist Daniel Lee and several spoken word artists, the male models, suited up in elegant attire from Men’s Wearhouse,  joined the women on the runway.

PAL, Crisis Intervention Associates, Gems of the Treasure Coast and END IT received DRIVEN awards for their hard work, dedication and contributions to the community by supporting area youth and other nonprofit organizations.

The Fort Pierce PAL offers a multitude of programs for local youth ages 5 to 18 including boxing, basketball, mentoring Pop Warner football and cheer and much more. These programs promote healthy interaction between youth, law enforcement, and the community.
