Dongfeng Motor Not Interested In Fiat Chrysler

Chinese holding company Dongfeng Motor Corporation has no plans to purchase Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, in whole or in part, according to a report from Reuters. Recently, another two Chinese companies that had been rumored to be considering purchasing FCA – Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, and Guangzhou Automobile Group – have also stated that they have no plans to acquire all or part of the Italian-American automaker.

When asked whether Dongfeng were interested in acquiring Fiat Chrysler Automobiles or some specific brands or technologies belonging to the company, Dongfeng Motor spokesperson Zhou Mi responded, “we currently have no plans,” dousing rumors to the contrary. Of the four big Chinese companies that had been tipped to be considering buying all or part of FCA, it appears only one is still a possibility: Great Wall Motors. The company has publicly expressed an interest in acquiring the Jeep brand.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne has made it a mission to sell to or merge with another automaker before his retirement toward the end of 2018. He said in April that he is open to selling off the Jeep and Ram brands.
