Auto Club will Hire Motorcycle Detective
Also Wants Incompetent Chauffeurs Barred from License – Will See About “Parking”
At the meeting of the El Paso Automobile Club, held last night in Chamber of Commerce hall, it was decided to start an active campaign against the throwing of glass on the city streets. There is an ordinance against this practice and to more rigidly enforce it the club proposes to hire a special man with a motorcycle to look into all cases. As soon as a report is sent into the club the motor agent will immediately go to the place where the glass has been found. he will make a full report to the club and the matter will be prosecuted. It is also proposed to have a reward offered by the club for information leading to the arrest of anyone throwing glass in the streets.
The club will also work to the end of having a law passed regulating the issuance of auto licenses. It is said that many cars are now being driven by minors and the club will endeavor to have a law passed requiring a chauffeur’s examination compulsory before licenses are issued.
A commission consisting of Phil Young, the acting president in the absence of Dr. French S. Cary, H. L Salle, W.H. Marsh, W.J. Rand and James Hilberth, was appointed to make and inspection of the Canutillo road and report to the cub. The road has been competed about three-quarters of the way up the mesa and will soon be ready for travel.
A committee from the Auto Club will see the city council this morning and will take up the matter of parking cars in front of business buildings. There is now an ordinance pending that will prohibit this practice, and the committee will probably work for a compromise. J.D. Bukey, secretary of the Auto Club, has written to about twenty cities of the size of El Paso asking how the parking problem is handled, and this data will be placed before the council at a later meeting.
