Access and affordability of health care remains an issue.
The Affordable Care Act significantly reduced the number of uninsured but there still are people who cannot get insurance. People who cannot get health insurance can still get health care.
The Dr. Garabed A. Fattal Community Free Clinic provides medical care and medications at no cost to uninsured adults in Binghamton and surrounding areas. Community support for the clinic is strong. Volunteers donate their time working alongside the next generation of physicians and other health care workers.
Financial support comes from individuals, community foundations, religious organizations and businesses. The clinic just celebrated 20 years of serving the uninsured. Dr. Fattal, founder, expressed hope that one day the clinic would not be needed because everyone would have access to quality, affordable health care. Unfortunately, that day has not yet arrived. The doors of the clinic remain open to serve the uninsured as they struggle with diabetes, hypertension, asthma, depression and other chronic illnesses.
The Clinic is open Thursday evenings. The clinic is located in the Broome County Health Department at 225 Front St., Binghamton.
Call 607-772-3519 for more information or just walk right in from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. No appointment needed.
